02 Configuring ESXi Hosts

Configure an ESXi host

After creating the Virtual machine Next would be to install ESXi. For that, we have to switch on the Machine click the Green colour play button.


When the machine is running the Launch Web Console button will be enabled in the Dashboard. Click that and there will be another Pop up saying with two options.

Lunch Console 
  • Web Console
  • VMware Remote Console (VMRC) 

Select the Prefer method that you like to use. I will be using the Web Console and when you click that it will open another Tab in the web browser. Select that Tab and you will be able to continue with the installation process.

Click OK

NOTE-: If you select the  VMware Remote Console (VMRC) you have to install the VMRC software and it will install on your local PC

 When the installing process start the First Boot screen will be like as in the above image 



The Welcome message will pop up.

Click Enter

After clicking the Enter installation process starts.



The Next window will be asked to accept the Agreement. to accept the Agreement Press F11

Every detail and instruction is there in the window. Read them and flow that instruction  

After pressing the F11 ESXi will scan for the Drive (Hard Disk Drive -HDD)



After scanning for the Drive (Hard Disk Drive -HDD) it will ask  to use the Drive

Click Enter



In the next window, it will ask about the Default keyboard that we like to use and select the Keyboard type that use (Most of the keyboard types are US)

Click Enter


After Selecting the Keyboard Type. Enter the Root Password

Click Enter


 After setting up the password  it will give Waring About the Hardware Virtualizations

Click Enter



In the Next window, it will ask the confirmation to install the ESXi 6.5.0

Click Enter

Then it will start the installation process



When the installation is completed it will ask to Remove the Installation media

Click Enter reboot.


After the reboot, you will get the screen with Two Option 

F2  Customize

F12 Restart / Shutdown

Press F2 to continue with the configuration it will ask for the Root password enter the Password to continue. 



Under the System, Customization Select the Configuration Management Network 

Use the Up and Down Arrow key to move through the menu and use the ESC key to go backward. Click Enter Select


Under the Configuration Management Network

Select IPv4 Configarations




From the list select Set Static IPv4 address and network Configuration


Use the Spacebar in the Keyboard to Select the menu

Enter the IP, Subnet Mask, Default gateway

Click Enter




From the list select DNS Configuration 

Enter the Primary DNS, Alternative DNS, HostName
 
Click Enter


From the Configuration Management Network Press ESC key. From the popup select Y to save the Configarations



When the configuration is saved you will be able to see a summary of your server configuration as in the above image



How to access the ESXi web interface


To access the ESXi Web interface use Web browser(Firefox or Chrome etc.. ) form Client PC or Server 

Important - It should be in the same network as ESXi (same IP range )

Enter the ESXi IP in the web browser and in will give a warning of SSL certificate accept it then it will redirect to the VMware web interface enter the User name (Root) and password  

 

 

Critical Thinking 

In this lab we have Install the ESXi 6.5 and setup the basic environment to continue with the labs. When installing the ESXi OS in the 27% it will stuck and we have to wait for  few minutes.The Main parts of this Lab is Configure the Correct IP and DNS and change the Host name.We can use Network management tools to test the Connections it will help to identify and troubleshoots the Network issues, before proceed to other labs this is the Base for every other Labs. This Lab must be 100% complete and prefect.
