 8 Accessing iSCSI Storage

 

 

 TASK-1 Add a VMKernel Port Group to a Standard Switch.

 

 

Select the host from left panel and in the Configure tab in the right side, under Networking select  VMKernel Adapters  Add Host Networking.

 

 

 

 

Select  VMKernel Adapters 

Click Next

 

 

 

 

From  the list select Switch0

 

Click Next

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 Network label -: Storage

 

 IP Storage-:  IPv4

 

Keep all the other settings as Default

 

Click Next

 

 

 

 

 

 

Select  Use Static IP4 Settings Add the 

IP address Sub-net mask and Default gateway

 

Click Next

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Follow the Same step's for the Second Host as well. (Add a different IP)

TASK-2 Configure the iSCSI Storage Adapter and connect it to the Storage

Now we have to Configure the iSCSI Storage Adapter

 

 

 

Select the host from left panel and in the Configure tab in the right side,Under Storage select Storage Adapter

 
 

In Storage Adapter  Click Add new Storage Adapter and select iSCSI adapter. Click OK in Popup message to Continue.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Select the newly created Storage adapter and go to the Properties Tab to check the Adapter status.(It should be Enable /Online )

 

 

 

 

 

In the Properties Tab under General Click Edit button in the Right side and  Ensure that the name shown in the iSCSI Name text box matches for your  ESXi hosts

 

 

Follow the Same step's for the Second Host as well (Name should be different depending on Host)

 

Click OK

 

 

Go To the Network Port Binding tab and Click the Add button, Put the Tick for IP storage Binding

 

 

 Click OK

 

 

 

 

 

 

 In the Target Tab Click Dynamic Discovery Click Add Button 

 Give the IP Address From your Network Range that you are using

 

 

 

Re-scan all storage adapters and 

 

Click OK

 

 

 

After scanning Check the Device Tab

LUN Number : 0

Capacity : 25GB

Operational State : Attached

Hardware Acceleration : Not Supported

 

 

 Repeat the same task for  Other esxi Host as well.

 

 

 

Critical Thinking 

In this lab ,we will creating the storage, to connect using the  VMkernel Port Group ,VM Switches. It will provide the connectivity for hosts to handle other types of traffic such as VMware vSphere vMotion traffic, storage traffic, and VMware vSphere Fault Tolerance traffic, Moreover  in this Lab I Configure the iSCSI Software Adapter connect it to the Storage it will connect to a Remote Storage using the IP Network. In the future Lab this storage will be using increase the capacity and etc..
